Cinder's Family & Friends Memorial Himalayan Trek Challenge

About
We’ll be in Nepal for four weeks through the Himalayan winter, in deep snow. Over 26 days of mountain trekking we’ll attempt a climb of 60,000 feet, equivalent to climbing Everest twice from sea level. This includes a 175 km traverse across the Solu Khumbu Everest region mountains climbing up via three passes and three peaks all over 17,500 feet. Our son Freddie who is 19, is the youngest of the family and close friends group of nine; including Rosie & Vicky (Cinders' nieces) Ann, Mag, Cas & Libby. I’m the only one with any previous Himalayan trekking experience. We’re making a professional documentary film to tell Cinders cancer story and what to look out for with early symptoms. This message gets very little publicity even though bowel cancer is the second biggest killer after breast cancer and affects one in 19 UK women. Cinders will be with us on the journey, and not only in spirit. Whenever I walk in the mountains now, I have a real sense of her presence, so I’m sure she’ll be with us every step of the way, encouraging us on. A local Sherpa woman Thapi `Maya is joining us too, and we’re donating Cinders’ rucksack, jacket and red trekking boots to her when we leave. So it’s nice to know Cinders’ mountain gear will go to a good home and will continue trekking in Nepal with Thapi long after we get home from our trip. Bowel Cancer UK is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity and campaign for early diagnosis and awareness raising of the key early symptoms to look out for to hopefully avoid acceleration of the disease to a critical stage, which was very close to Cinders' heart. Bowel Cancer is here to stop loved ones like Cinders dying of bowel cancer.
